Earth to Humanity
Hello my dear ones, the inspiration for this poem came to me after an acquaintance experienced an extraordinary near-death experience, during which he could quite literally feel the pain and despair of our Earth within his own body. Let its message touch your heart.
SOS, children of humankind—I am your home planet. I ask of you but one small thing: love me with all your heart!
I offer you flowers, continents, northern lights, and a place to call your own, yet sometimes it feels as though you humans scarcely care.
I long to delight you for many years to come with all my vibrant colours, but I can only do so if you do not bring about my end.
I wish to bless you with abundant water, so that all life may flourish and no child will ever die of thirst, sparing the world such needless sorrow.
Life pulses through every part of me, and I gladly offer you shelter. But tell me, what do you truly gain by filling my seas with waste?
When fish perish in agony beneath the waves, humanity too walks toward its own undoing. The rainforest will fade away with me—what legacy do you wish to leave behind for your children?
Let there be no more exploitation. Let nature and her creatures live. I gladly place myself under your protection, for it will benefit biodiversity. Then you too shall once again rejoice when flowers bloom from my fertile soil.
Your health will return, and with it my happiness. I appeal to your hearts, for I feel your pain as well.
